Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
